Ferrero Rocher Hot Chocolate
What better way to celebrate Christmas than by opening a box of Ferrero Rocher? But in the run up to Christmas, why not cut down on the calories and refined sugar by whipping up a healthy hazelnut hot chocolate which tastes just like drinking a Ferrero Rocher! You can leave the blended hazelnuts in for a more nutty texture which is more true to the texture of a Ferrero Rocher or, if you want a smoother drink, simply pour it through a sieve / tea strainer into your mug but don't throw away the ground hazelnut. Save it and add it to your porridge the next morning - delicious!
- 250 ml hazelnut milk
- 2 tsp cacao powder
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- pinch sea salt (I use himalayan pink salt)
- 10 hazelnuts
Place all the ingredients in a food processor or blender (I use a mini nutribullet which is perfect for this).
Transfer to a saucepan and heat gently over a medium heat to warm through. Be careful not to let it boil.
Serve as it is or, for a smoother texture, pour it through a sieve or tea strainer inot a mug. Enjoy!
- You could heat this in the microwave to save time but I like the traditional way of heating it on a saucepan so I can control the heat.
- You could omit the hazelnuts altogether and just use hazelnut milk but the hazelnut flavour will not be as strong. Alternatively, add 1/2 tsp of hazelnut extract (make sure you are not using a hazelnut syrup if you are watching the calories and sugar intake). I have not tried this method myself yet but I don't see why it would not be just as delicious.
